Storage guides note that Texas summer heat can damage wood furniture, electronics, photographs, and fabrics, so those suit a climate-controlled unit, while tools and boxed household goods do well in a standard one.

Texas law also says a storage unit may not be used as a residence, and it defines the space as rented for storing property only. A unit is for storing property, so it holds stock, tools, and supplies.
Texas law sets no minimum number of days that rent must be late before a facility may act. Before the contents of a unit with unpaid rent can be sold, the facility must deliver a written notice and give the tenant until the 14th day after delivery to pay. After that day, the facility must advertise the sale and wait at least 10 more days before it can happen.
